Screw Drive
Screw drives are one of Genie's industry innovations! These are solid steel, direct drives with improved strength and unrivaled reliability. Screw drives have no chains, belts, or gears to wear out. They feature a streamlined design: the drive screw connects to the motor shaft with a coupler; this means power flows in a straight line, maximizing the efficiency of the motor without losing a lot of power or torque.
Chain Drive
Chain drives are some of the most affordable and reliable garage door openers on the market. These drives use a simple metal chain to move the garage door up and down its track. Genie's chain drive gives you optimal performance without the need to lubricate your drive.
Belt Drive
Belt drives use a rubber belt instead of a chain to move the garage door. They are as reliable as chain drives, but extremely quiet. They also don't require periodic lubrication. Belt drives are considered premium drives.
Genie's door openers use a uniform speed of about 7" per second.
If you prefer faster opening, check out the Genie Excelerator. With an opening speed of about 14" per second, it opens twice as fast as other openers on the market!
Yes! All Genie garage door openers work with any standard sectional roll-up door.
No. Universal remotes are unreliable because they have to coordinate a wide spectrum of ranges, power requirements, and radio frequencies. Genie remote controls are device-specific and deliver reliable performance.
It might, but it depends on the model of your remote control. If your remote was manufactured after 1996, it should work with your new Intellicode opener. If it was manufactured before 1996, it uses fixed-code sequencing and doesn't work with Intellicode technology.
If you don't know when your remote control was manufactured, give Genie customer service a call at 1-800-354-3643.
A. The typical range is 150 feet. The range can be affected by any number of shielding factors, including aluminum siding, coatings on car windshields, or solid walls.
Before you start, read your owner's manual!

If you need to work around obstructions in your garage, yes. Keep in mind that the shorter your rail is, the shorter the distance your door can be raised.
If you need to cut your rails, just measure and cut off the appropriate length, then drill an attachment hole into the rail.
Note: it's more complicated to cut the rails on belt and chain systems. You will need to retension the belt, or remove the chain links and re-assemble.

Make sure it hangs straight down; this is the radio antenna, and it connects the garage door opener to your remote controls.
Intellicode is innovative security technology that protects your garage door from being opened by other people with same-model remote controls or universal remotes. It's one of Genie's industry-first innovations!
Every time you operate your opener, your remote device sends an electronic code that must match the code of your opener. Intellicode changes that electronic code every time you use your opener, protecting you from hackers and from neighbors with similar garage door openers.
Before you start, make sure that the path of the garage door is clear of vehicles, people, pets, ladders, etc.
-
Get your remote control and stand where you can reach your garage door opener.
-
Find the "Learn Code" button on your opener. This is usually under the light cover at the back.
-
Press, then release the "Learn Code" button; the LED indicator should start blinking (about once per second).
-
Press, then release the remote control button; the LED indicator should stop blinking and glow steadily.
-
Press and release the remote control button again; the LED indicator should go dark.
-
Check your remote by pressing the button again; your garage door should operate. If it doesn't, repeat the steps above.
-
You can repeat the steps above for the other buttons on a multiple-button remote, or for additional remote controls. Genie Intellicode technology can handle up to seven remote devices, including remote controls and an Intellicode wireless keypad.
Safe-T-Beam is an infrared beam that scans your garage door opening between 5 and 6 inches from the floor. If anything interrupts the beam, the garage door automatically raises; this protects people and pets from injury and vehicles and other property from damage.
Note: Genie garage door openers will not close the door unless the Safe-T-Beam is functional.
No. Since 1993, all garage door openers have been required to include some form of safety device to prevent injury or damage to people, pets, vehicles, and other objects that could be in the path of the garage door.
The Safe-T-Beam must be positioned between 5 and 6 inches from the floor. Genie garage door openers will not close the door unless the Safe-T-Beam is functional.

You can open the door from the inside: find the red emergency release cord hanging from the overhead opener and pull straight down; this releases the door from the opener, letting you open it manually.
For more specific instructions, check out your owner's manual.
If you want to be able to open the door from the outside, you'll need to install an emergency release lock. You can call Genie customer service at 1-800-354-3643 with questions about this product.
If you have an Excelerator opener, press down the two tabs that secure the lens cover to the chassis (the top of the unit); the lens cover will open. Replace your bulb with a rough-service light bulb, maximum 60W.
If you have another model of garage door opener, you may need a Phillips screwdriver. Unscrew the two screws at the top of the unit that secure the lens cover to the front panel; the lens cover will open. Check your owner's manual for the appropriate wattage.
Maintenance is specific to your model, so check your owner's manual.
Use only Genie GLU-3 or GLU-4 oil; check your owner's manual for more specific instructions.
Do not use WD-40 or similar products. These can degrade the grease that's already on your garage door opener and make it drip.
A blinking light on your Safe-t-Beam tells you there's an error condition. First, check that the lenses are mounted 6" from the floor on both sides of the garage door opening. If that's in place, check your owner's manual for possible problems and solutions.
A. There is probably something in the path of your garage door. Check it out, and clear anything that may block the door from closing.
If there's nothing blocking the door, take a look at your Safe-T-Beam LED indicator – if it's blinking, check to make sure both lenses are mounted 6" from the floor on both sides of the garage door opening.
If your Safe-T-Beam lenses are installed correctly and there's nothing in the path of the door, check out the troubleshooting section of your owner's manual.
R. Your door might be disconnected from the carriage – check to see if the red emergency release cord has been pulled. You may need to re-attach the carriage; please refer to your owner's manual for details.
First, check to make sure your batteries are charged. Next, check to make sure your remote control is programmed correctly.
