Monthly Maintenance Checklist
Safety Note: If the springs on your door opener are broken, don't operate your garage door with your opener OR manually! Contact a professional door system technician for service.
-
Check your hardware and springs.
-
Oil the door rollers, hinges, and bearing and with light oil or silicone lubricant.
-
Check the balance of your garage door.
-
Close the door.
-
Pull the emergency release cord to disengage the carriage from the rail assembly.
-
Raise the door about 3 or 4 feet manually.
-
If the door holds still, it's balanced properly. Re-engage the carriage to the rail assembly by pulling the emergency release cord knob toward the power head.
-
If the door moves, it's out of balance. Have your door checked out by a professional door system technician.
-
Contact Reverse Test
-
Place a 2" x 4" board flat on the floor in the middle of the garage doorway. (The board should be underneath the Safe-T-Beam sensor beam.)
-
Close the garage door with your remote control or wall button.
-
Within 2 seconds of touching the board, the door should reverse and return to its open position.
-
If your door doesn't reverse when it touches the board, you need to lower the door's close force; check out the Contact Reverse section of your owner's manual for instructions specific to your garage door opener. If your door still doesn't reverse after lowering the close force, have your opener serviced by a professional or replace it.
-
Non-Contact Reverse Test
-
First, interrupt the Safe-T-Beam sensor beam by placing an object in its path.
-
Try to close the garage door with your remote control or wall button.
-
The door should not move.
-
Next, move the object, then press the button to close your garage door. As the door is closing, put an object in the path of the sensor beam. (Rolling a ball works well.) The garage door should stop moving downward and return to its open position.
